Theme: The Five Senses
During our September Holiday Programme, students embarked on a fun and engaging exploration of The Five Senses. Through a variety of hands-on activities, games, sensory experiences, and creative projects, students learnt how their senses help them understand and interact with the world around them.
Sense of Sight 👀
Students explored their sense of sight through an I Spy game and an outdoor Scavenger Hunt. They searched for and identified different objects, places, and structures around the playground while following visual clues and checklists.
These activities encouraged observation, visual attention, identification skills, and awareness of their surroundings.
Sense of Hearing 👂
For the sense of hearing, students participated in Guess the Sound, using cups containing different objects to listen carefully and identify the sounds produced. They also enjoyed a Music Jam Session, where they explored sounds, rhythms, and music using a variety of musical instruments.
Through these activities, students practised listening, auditory discrimination, attention, and turn-taking.
Sense of Taste 👅
Students explored their sense of taste through food tasting activities. They experienced different flavours, including sweet, sour, salty, and bitter, and learnt to identify and describe the different tastes.
They also participated in a Taste Relay, where students matched different foods according to their taste.
These activities provided opportunities to develop taste awareness, food identification, communication, and sensory exploration.
Sense of Smell 👃
Students explored a variety of familiar scents, including ginger, pandan leaves, garlic, vanilla, and mango. They practised identifying and distinguishing between different smells through hands-on sensory activities.
Students also took part in Scented Painting, where they created artwork using paints infused with different scents. This allowed them to combine sensory exploration with creativity and self-expression.
Sense of Touch ✋
Students explored their sense of touch through Guess What’s in the Box, where they used their hands to identify hidden objects without looking. They also explored different textures through sensory materials and created their own Sensory Boards using materials with different tactile properties.
These activities encouraged tactile discrimination, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and sensory awareness.
Our September Holiday Programme provided students with a meaningful opportunity to learn through seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touching. Through games, outdoor exploration, food tasting, music, sensory activities, and creative experiences, students developed their sensory awareness, observation, communication, coordination, creativity, and confidence.
It was a fun-filled week of exploring, discovering, and learning through the senses, with plenty of opportunities for students to engage with their environment in hands-on and meaningful ways.
